College and Career Information

Career planning is infused in the School Counseling Department's curriculum.  Students can explore careers in Naviance by clicking on the Careers tab. Students may also take a career interest inventory in Naviance based on Holland's theory of career choice, known as the RIASEC model, which posits that career satisfaction depends on the fit between personality and the work environment. It categorizes individuals and environments into six types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional, suggesting people flourish in environments matching their personality.

Naviance is a comprehensive, web-based College, Career, and Life Readiness platform designed to help students connect their academic achievements to post-secondary goals. It empowers students to discover their strengths, explore career paths, and manage the college application process—including transcripts and letters of recommendation—through a personalized, interactive tool.

Students who would like to pursue college athletics must register with the NCAA eligibility center to certify academic and amateurism status.  

It is the responsibility of the student to ensure they meet all academic requirements set forth by the NCAA as they differ from our school's and state's requirements.  Students and their families are encouraged to familiarize themselves with NCAA rules and guidelines as soon as possible.  '

Understanding financial aid is an important part of the college planning process. Financial aid can include grants, scholarships, work-study opportunities, and loans, all designed to help make post-secondary education more affordable. Students and families are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and, when required, the College Board CSS Profile to determine eligibility for aid. Our counseling office provides resources, important deadlines, and guidance to help families navigate applications and better understand financial aid packages. We also encourage families to explore community resources and external agencies that may offer additional financial assistance and support.

Our school counseling department is committed to helping students navigate the scholarship process and access financial support for their post-secondary goals. Scholarships are available through a variety of sources, including colleges and universities, local community organizations, and national programs, each with its own criteria and deadlines. Students are encouraged to begin exploring opportunities early, stay organized, and apply to as many relevant scholarships as possible. The counseling office will share scholarship announcements throughout the year and provide guidance on applications, essays, and required materials. Families are also encouraged to explore community resources and external agencies that offer additional scholarship opportunities and support.

• The New Jersey Student Assistance Rewards Scholarship - (NJ STARS) is the first state sponsored scholarship program in the nation that is specifically designed for community college students. NJ STARS covers the cost of tuition and approved fees at New Jersey's 19 community colleges.
